I bought that Mango pleated dress a couple of months after my arrival in London. When I left Germany, I gave all the clothes I didn’t want or couldn’t bring with me to a charity. See, the thing with moving to another country is that you have to leave some things behind and clothes are part of it. So when I come to a new country, I always end up needing new clothes. In this rare occasion, I find shopping in store enjoyable. It’s basically as if I were furnishing my new home.
Coming back to that pleated dress, I didn’t wear it a lot though. Not because I didn’t like it but simply because I couldn’t find how to wear it. It’s a piece that can quickly look very prim and proper – like on the picture with my Zara coat where I look like a perfect student girl. I just lack books and it’s done! Hence why I wanted to tone it down by wearing it with that Topshop sweatshirt I happen not to wear that much too! But this simply because sweatshirts were not part of my fashion dictionary until I saw this one.
I bought that pleated dress because I love how it moves graciously when you walk. Pictures don’t tell but I’m not really gracious. That’s why I like finding pieces of clothing that do the trick for me. In that sense, clothes and style are my armour. I think clothes are there to enhance people. Precisely because of that, I will never find fashion vain.
What about you? Do you have any piece of clothing making you feel special?
